Without a life-jacket
on,
and throw an entire loaf at his head. The sea comes alive with fish taking
nips out of the loaf (and parts of him). Sorry,
Cowboy's instincts.
Most of the beautiful coral reefs had been damaged
by the tsunami last year and are currently in
recovery, so the sea life is alive and abundant -
with rambow-hued fishes and amazing ocean life that
make for a spectacular snorkelling experience. (Warning:
watch out for sea urchins!)
The clear blue waters of Poda Island are simply
perfect for swimming, being a tiny island with soft
white sand. Phra Nang on Railay Beach has lovely
soft sand, clear waters, magnificent limestone
cliffs and the very bizarre Tham Phra Nang Nok or
Princess Cave, a shrine that is dedicated to a
fertility goddess containing huge wooden phalluses,
garlands and offerings left by the fishermen.
Follow the trail close to the Princess Cave, and you
will find rock climbers from all over the world
assembled at Railay East and Tonsai Beach. Guided
rock-climbing excursions are organised by
professionals for tourists (beginners included).
