LASSO THE SOUL - (by a Guest diary)
After two days of body-breaking activity,
this Cowboy is ready to slow down and discover
the soul of this place.
■ Krabi Town
It's no shopper's paradise, but in Krabi Town,
bargain hunters will find quaint goods sold at
shops proclaiming "One Tambon, One Product"
(which translates to mean "One
province produces one product") which make
excellent gifts and delicious chestnuts which
are produced by Krabi province.
■ Night
Markets
The night markets are also an experience: they
are located in a different place each day of the
week, and sell goods ranging from local
delicacies, meat and clothing.
■ Night Life
There are no bright neon lights, girlie bars or
other naughty diversions in Krabi. Unless you
are shown around by a local, chances of you
stumbling upon such a place are slim.
Crime is practically non-existent.
You can walk around town after dark without fear
of being mugged Gem scams and unscrupulous taxi
drivers do not exist here.
Simply put, this is one well-behaved town. The
tourists who visit Krabi are middle-class,
looking to unwind with their families.
Krabi is the region that holds Thailand's
oldest-known settlement this area has been
archaeologically proven to have been lived in
30,000 years ago! It is heartbreaking to watch
the locals folk here being caught in the march
of modernisation and struggling to maintain
their traditional way of life, which is so
charming to foreigners.
It's probably just a matter of time before the
world discovers Krabi - and then it's Boomtown
Charlie! But before that happens, there's still
plenty of time for you to hop onto the next
flight to Krabi and experience it for yourself.
BEST MONTHS
The best time to pay a visit to Krabi is during
the November - March season when the weather is
cool and comfortable... but the rain season
feeling in the rain forest of Krabi is
absolutely fantastic !!
